WARREN HEALTH SERVICE
From the outset, Silver Thomas Hanley championed the idea that hospitals should be central, civic buildings - uplifting in experience and deeply connected to their communities. For the Warren Health Service (WHS), this vision translated into a design that draws directly from the heritage and landscape of Manjimup, celebrating the region’s timber industry and the South West’s use of rammed earth construction.
Completed within budget, the WHS redevelopment has had a lasting and positive impact on the community.
It supports preventive healthcare access, enhances community wellbeing, and offers a safe, intuitive environment for patients and staff. The facility was designed to exceed government safety standards, with features that mitigate risk, support staff workflow, and improve the patient experience through intuitive wayfinding and well-located services.
Recognised for its excellence in both design and delivery, the project received a Good Design Award Winner Accolade in Architectural Design and was named 2020 Best Health Care Building ($20–$50 million) by the Master Builders Association WA. WACHS has expressed strong pride in the outcome, noting its meaningful contribution to the health and identity of the region.
