FIONA STANLEY MENTAL HEALTH UNIT

As part of the landmark Fiona Stanley Hospital development - Western Australia’s largest health infrastructure investment at the time - the purpose-built Mental Health Unit represents a critical component of the hospital’s commitment to integrated, patient-centred care.

Delivered within a broader $1.76 billion precinct, the unit was master planned and designed by Silver Thomas Hanley as part of a collaborative architectural joint venture, aligning with the strategic goals of the WA Health Reform Taskforce.

Positioned adjacent to the main hospital, the facility provides 24/7 acute mental health care in a setting that prioritises dignity, comfort and clinical safety. The unit includes an eight-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), a Mother and Baby Unit, and general adult mental health beds. It offers comprehensive assessment and treatment services for patients with complex psychiatric conditions, supporting both the Fiona Stanley Hospital campus and the wider South Metropolitan region.
