EDITH COWAN UNIVERSITY BUILDING 15
Silver Thomas Hanley was appointed as Lead Design Consultant for the delivery of a cutting-edge, 8,652m² science and STEM building at Edith Cowan University’s Joondalup campus. The project vision was to create a bold yet refined architectural statement that responds sensitively to its context while enabling world-class research, teaching, and professional collaboration.
This five-storey facility was designed to embody flexibility, innovation, and sustainability. A defining feature of the building is its integration of pedagogically driven laboratory spaces—most notably, two levels of advanced PC2-compliant “superlabs.” Each 550m² lab is supported by dedicated preparation areas, fume hoods, and biosafety cabinets. These labs are underpinned by a forward-thinking services strategy, including decentralised mechanical plant rooms, allowing for scalable laboratory expansion and reduced vertical service infrastructure.
